The Crown

The Crown

Cruelly thrust upon His brow

Its deeply penetrating thorns

Transfixed a crown that spoke to all

Of mocking and of scorn.

The men he loved in silence stared

To see the crown, the nails, the gore

Their Saviour stripped of everything

Save thorns upon His brow.

“Dear God in heaven, He’s Your Son

See what they’ve done. Come, take Him down”

From heav’n the answer clearly comes

“Behold His kingly crown.”

Though signifying cruelty

To all who saw the spiny ring

All heaven bowed as Jesus was

Declared the King of Kings.

The King of Love’s victorious

That’s what the crown of thorns proclaims

His grace and pure humility

Gives Him the right to reign.

Yet none of Jesus’ followers

Could see that at that cruel time

The heavenly plan was hidden then

They only saw the crime.

So when there is catastrophe

And all around seems dark and grim

Remember God sees differently

He knows. Keep trusting Him.
